Why did you choose to apply to a graduate role at Diageo?

This role stood out to me as one that stretches graduates in all aspects of their professional skillset. Being able to be on a 2 year rotational scheme will enable me to see various parts of the business and build up knowledge across functions.

What do you wish you knew when you were applying to Diageo?

That in 12 month’s time I’d be at one of the best companies in the world’s ho care about their employers and strive not only to produce the best work, but be the best people.

Tell us about your experience as a graduate with Diageo? – what kind of support is offered, what is the culture like, etc.

Culture is great here, the D&I team really ensure that active work is being done to celebrate diversity within the workplace. This isn’t just a topic spoken about, there are actions that follow up and support all employees of the business.

Tell us about your current graduate role with Diageo? What’s the most exciting thing about it?

I am on the Marketing Graduate Scheme and my first rotation is as the Assistant Brand Manager at Captain Morgan. What I’m finding particularly exciting g at the. Moment is working on continuing to build one of Diageo’s giants. Looking at how we can position ourselves on the market and taking learnings from data is key in understanding your consumer!

Share your top 3 tips for someone looking to secure a graduate role.

  • Be resilient– don’t give up on searching.
  • Show your personality– Make sure you’re bringing your authentic self as the company values could align perfectly with your core beliefs.
  • Know your stuff.

I chose to apply for the finance graduate scheme at Diageo because I knew how many opportunities this job could provide me with whilst at the same time gaining invaluable experience and knowledge within the world of finance.

One thing I wish I knew before applying was to not be so nervous (it is definitely easier said than done!) but each individual I encountered throughout the process of applying was extremely helpful and kind. Looking back, I honestly had nothing to be nervous about!

I have only been working at Diageo for 6 weeks now but I have already seen how much support there is for graduates and everyone in general. There are so many people to help and guide you, and it feels as though they all want to see you succeed and flourish at the company. The culture is so diverse which automatically makes you feel very welcome within the company which is an added bonus when starting a new job.

In this finance graduate scheme I have already learned so much about the company and finance in general which has been amazing! My team and others around me are always happy to answer any of my questions and have even gotten me involved in a number of different projects and processes, allowing for a deeper understanding of Diageo as well as allowing me to contribute to the work being done.

My top 3 tips for securing a graduate role would be to firstly identify the values and cultures you want within a company and then apply to a role accordingly as you’ll already know that the company is right for you. Try to stay determined and motivated, it can sometimes be a lengthy process but it will happen and it helps to remain positive. Finally, be confident! If you exude confidence and believe in yourself, everyone else will too!
